John Joseph Kawulok Jr., 90, of Sheridan, passed away Monday, July 1, 2019, at his residence.
John was born Sept. 19, 1928, in Monarch, Wyoming, to John and Mary (Sikora) Kawulok, who immigrated from Poland. He grew up and attended grade school in Monarch and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1946. He enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. He married Esther (Rowton) Kawulok on June 2, 1956. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on Oct. 13, 1960.
As a young man, he spent summers working at the sawmill in the Bighorn Mountains, Eaton Ranch, and the railroad. He also worked at the Bison Bar for many years. After his discharge from the Army, he began his long career in the physical therapy department at the Sheridan Veterans Hospital. After retirement, he spent many summers mowing lawns for elderly residents.
John cherished time fishing, hunting, camping, and spending time in the Bighorn Mountains. He especially enjoyed a good polka. He loved his six children and their spouses, fourteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He was a long life member of Holy Name Church.
John was an amazing father, and we owe all our success to him and our mother.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, parents John Sr. and Mary, his sisters, Helen (Paul), Susie (Frank), and Mary (Bill); son, Daniel, and granddaughter Sara.
Survivors include his children: Bob (Debbie) Kawulok, Cathy (Greg) Bealer, Jim (Jill) Kawulok, Dave (Melanie) Kawulok, Lori (Darrell) Ostendorf, Steve (Ann) Kawulok, Stacy Kawulok, and Tim (Donna Jo) Demchok.
