Bull Snake Causes Power Outage

More than 3,000 addresses across Sheridan County were without power this afternoon after a large bull snake shorted out the system at a transmission substation.
Residents and businesses throughout Sheridan, Dayton, and Ranchester began experiencing power outages around 12:15 p.m. June 11. Some businesses temporarily closed when Montana Dakota Utilities (MDU) estimated the problem could take hours to resolve.
All of historic downtown Sheridan was affected, including traffic lights. The Sheridan Police Department reminded everyone that anytime a traffic light is out, the intersection should be treated as a four-way stop.
By 1:30 p.m., MDU crews had located the snake and began restoring power.
Current known outages are unrelated.
