New Fishing Dock at Ranchester Pond
Through a collaboration between the Town of Ranchester and the Wyoming Sportsman’s Group, a new fishing dock is now open at Ranchester City Pond.
According to Town of Ranchester employee Tim Brewer, the wooden dock at the popular community fishery had seriously deteriorated.
“It was built in the 1980s and the wood was just rotten,” he said. “It was getting to the point that every year we had to come out and replace a lot of boards.”
The fishery is heavily used by the community, including young anglers, and the Town of Ranchester applied to the Gillette nonprofit for funding assistance to replace the dock. The group agreed to pay for the cost of all materials and the Town of Ranchester agreed to have town maintenance crews construct the new dock.
The new dock is made of durable composite material that will significantly reduce required maintenance over the years.
On May 2, following completion of the dock, personnel from Tillett Hatchery in Powell stocked the pond with 350 rainbow trout. Fifth graders from Tongue River Elementary School helped stock by shuttling buckets from the hatchery truck to the dock. Another stocking of 350 rainbow trout is scheduled for the end of May.
