In the Oscar-nominated movie directed by Steven Spielberg, “Catch Me If You Can” looks at the life of Frank Abagnale Jr. In his early years Abagnale (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) successfully impersonated a doctor, a lawyer, and a co-pilot for a major airline — all before his 18th birthday. A master of deception, he was also a brilliant forger, whose skill gave him his first real claim to fame. FBI Agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) makes it his prime mission to capture Frank and bring him to justice, but Frank is always one step ahead of him.
Since his arrest at age 21, Abagnale has worked with the FBI on fraud cases for over 40 years and is also a FraudWatch Ambassador for AARP.
“Catch Me If You Can” has already been shown by AARP in Casper and Torrington as AARP Wyoming promotes AARP’s FraudWatch Network.
While in Casper this summer, Abagnal offered a presentation on how to keep your identity safe on behalf of AARP Wyoming. That presentation is available here. To learn more about Frank Abagnale visit aarp.org.
AARP presents “Catch Me If You Can,” through its Movies For Grown-ups series, which seeks to fight social isolation in those age 50 and over.
