Sheridan Fire Rescue Extinguishes Structure Fire
At approximately 10:00 am this morning, the Sheridan Fire Rescue Department responded to a report of a structure fire at the corner of 6th and Skeels Streets.
The flames were extinguished immediately, no one was hurt, and very minimal damage seems to have been caused by the fire and the water from firefighters’ hoses.
The home is occupied by Gerry and Jessi Florez. Jessi said she “could be doing better.” Jessi’s mother, Alicia Russell, said the fire started inside the walls and she assumes it must have been electrical. Russell said no one was home at the time, except for the family dog. Russell said she will be taking the dog to her house for the time-being.
According to Fire Chief Gary Harnish, firefighters were able to respond rapidly thanks to a call from a quick-thinking neighbor.
“Thank goodness for neighbors,” Russell exclaimed.
Harnish said they won’t make any assumptions about the cause of the fire until they have done a thorough investigation on its origins.
