(Sheridan, Wyo) The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and law enforcement are teaming up again for their annual Click It or Ticket national mobilization to increase seat belt use.
Click It or Ticket runs from May 21 to June 3. On May 21, Sheridan Police Department (SPD) will join Wyoming Highway Patrol to kick off the campaign with Border to Border, a 1-day national seat belt awareness event that focuses on seat belt enforcement along heavily traveled, highly visible state border checkpoints. It includes a four-hour enforcement crackdown from 4–8 p.m. to address nighttime belt use, as that is when seat belt use is at its lowest.
“We will have a zero tolerance policy for those who are unbuckled,”Colonel Kebin Haller, Wyoming Highway Patrol administrator, said in a letter to SPD. “We are hopeful that the border to border initiative will help change driving behaviors of all drivers wear their seatbelts.”
According to the NHTSA, in 2016 alone, seat belts saved nearly 15,000 lives.
